Some people like to say that Ottawa is the city that fun forgot… Those people clearly don’t know about all these spots to play games!

With most of the Canada 150 celebrations in the rearview mirror and all the summer excitement slowly dying down, now is the time to check out all those fun spots you’ve been meaning to go to!

In no specific order, here are 5 of Ottawa’s best hot spots for game lovers…

1) The Loft Board Game Lounge

With over 300 board games to choose from, there’s no possible way for you to be BORED at this Ottawa hot spot (see what I did there?). Not only are there endless games to choose from, the full menu including flatbread pizzas, sandwiches and desserts will make you never want to leave.

And if you fall in love with a game you play at The Loft, just tell your server and you can either buy your own copy from their retail selection or they will order it in for you!

2) The Blurry Pixel

This second-floor hideaway is one that shouldn’t be missed!

Unlike The Loft, The Blurry Pixel has strictly video games. It calls itself an ‘E-sports and Gaming Lounge’. With a pretty basic menu of finger food and an equally basic craft beer menu, the draw here is the lineup of favorite nostalgic games for NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube. There are also games on Wii and WiiU for the ‘new school gamers’.

3) House of TARG

This is probably the most widely recognized game bar in Ottawa. House of TARG is known for their massive collection of pinball machines and their famous perogies.

With Ottawa being one of the Canadian cities that DOESN’T have the pinball machine ban, (look it up, it’s a thing!) we’re lucky enough to have this retro-style arcade right on Bank Street. It’s the perfect post-Redblacks game hang out spot.

4) The Game Buff (AKA L’As des jeux)

Alright, yes, this one isn’t technically in Ottawa but it’s close enough!

With 2 locations in both Gatineau and Aylmer, The Game Buff offers tons of board games in both French and English. What better way to practice your French than by playing a fun game with friends? I think I’m onto something…

5) Level One

Nope, not a copycat of The Loft; it’s actually the downstairs ‘little sister’ restaurant.

Similarly to The Loft, Level One offers a unique variety of games, food and drinks. Instead of flatbread pizza, however, they have items on their menu like the Level One Buddha Bowl, which may be more appealing to the health conscious gamer.

This spot also offers what they call ‘Geek Trivia’ every Monday at 7:00 pm. If you dig deeper on their website in curiosity of what topics they cover like I did, you’ll only see the standings from past Monday nights. Guess we’ll just have to go to find out!
